Week 9: Monday, Mar. 6th - Sunday, Mar. 12th

Updated: Mar 12, 2023

Coming down to the last few days of this work, I did alot of tweaking, changes, and re-rendering specific parts to fix them all together. Regardless of it all, I finally have a final look for my video. Listed below is what I have submitted for final review!

I think the hardest aspect of this project is understanding the layers of the whole scene and when they should be in front or behind something in the scene to make sense. There was a good fight I had with the fire ball to be correct, and I had to string together something creative and smart to make it work. One problem lead to another, and I did what was appropriate to get the final result.

There were sometimes in the video when I thought "Oh, is that a card in the scene that shouldn't be visible now?". That leads me back to the plate of the video to find out that what I thought was a mistake was just how the video was naturally. Another instance was when I realized turning the gain alpha to zero will leave a dark spot on the wall that I used to fake the light from the fireball. I realized this when I was looking at when and where the fireball was starting and saw this little dark spot that filled in the same space as my fake light. I had to make those adjustments in my animation and re-render those specific frames. There are more problems that I had with the roto masking, the pivot points on the cards moving, but I don't want to spill too much about it 😅

What else would I want to do with this project? Probably add a strong short camera shake to the impact of the shield hit, go back over subsurface levels so nothing is more brighter than others, and probably put some light on the floor from the shield spell as well. I would also like to re-distort the plate to match the 24mm lens distort that was originally in the video for better integration purposes.
